Partners and People

Countryside Survey is funded by a partnership of government funded bodies. This partnership brings together a wide range of organisations with a core of related interests. The Survey’s design, implementation, data analysis, interpretation and reporting is guided by a Steering Committee, made up from the partners and informed by user needs. The results and findings of the Survey are used by all partners and made available to other interested bodies, researchers and the public.

During the 2007 Survey, work in England, Scotland and Wales was undertaken by the Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (part of the Natural Environment Research Council). A linked survey in Northern Ireland was also carried out by other partners.

The Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) lead the partnership of funders.

Many other organisations have contributed to Countryside Survey by responding to consultations during the preparation phases. We have valued their comments and assistance, which have helped us ensure that the 2007 Survey meets the needs of a wide range of end-users.

Special thanks are due to the land owners and land managers who permit the field surveyors to have access to their land. Without their help, the Field Survey could not have taken place.
