Partners and People

Countryside Survey is funded by a partnership of government funded bodies. This partnership brings together a wide range of organisations with a core of related interests. The Survey’s design, implementation, data analysis, interpretation and reporting is guided by a Steering Committee, made up from the partners and informed by user needs. The results and findings of the Survey will be used by all partners and made available to other interested bodies, researchers and the public.

The partners have contracted the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (part of the Natural Environment Research Council) to carry out the work in England, Scotland and Wales. Other partners in Northern Ireland are carrying out a linked survey there.

The Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) lead the partnership of funders.

Many other organisations have contributed to Countryside Survey by responding to consultations during the preparation phases. We have valued their comments and assistance, which have helped us ensure that the Survey will meet the needs of a wide range of end-users.

Special thanks are due to the land owners and land managers who permit the field surveyors to have access to their land. Without their help, the Field Survey could not take place.
