Distribution of Ash trees (Fraxinus excelsior) across GB using Countryside Survey data

December 2012

This report has been produced in response to the ash dieback (Chalara fraxinea) outbreak to summarise the available data on ash (Fraxinus excelsior) distribution across Great Britain using Countryside Survey data. This report is complementary to the Forestry Commission report ‘Preliminary estimates of broadleaved species in British Woodlands’  (http://www.forestry.gov.uk/forestry/INFD-935MSY).

The FC report estimates the extent of ash (and other broadleaved species) in woodlands >0.5 ha in size. This CS report focuses on area estimates in small habitat patches <0.5 ha and also trees outside woodland as individual trees or in hedgerows and woody linear features.
