casiTM and LIDAR - more information

casiTM
The Compact Airborne Spectrographic Imager, casiTM, collects spectral information covering the visible and near infrared regions of the electromagnetic spectrum (430-870 nm). A spatial resolution between 0.5 m and 10 m can be achieved, depending on the flying altitude. The information can be used to study the spectral characteristics of ground or water targets.

For this study, casiTM data were recorded at a 3m spatial resolution, and in wavebands selected around the red and infrared spectral regions to give optimum information for vegetation analysis.

LIDAR
The LIght Detection And Ranging instrument, LIDAR, is a laser range finder that measures the time of flight of a laser beam from the aircraft to the ground and back. The information provides elevation data which can be used for terrain and vegetation measurement and mapping. Horizontal accuracies can be within 5 cm when using ground-based Global Positioning System (GPS) stations. A vertical accuracy of 10-15 cm is achievable for most surfaces and better for homogenous examples.
